The top sixteen Under-19 cricket teams from around the globe will gather in New Zealand to contest the ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. Queenstown will be hosting a pool phase daily at the Events Centre.

QVSS Festival of Chamber Music

violin-school-150The inaugural QVSS Festival of Chamber Music, encompasses and expands upon the activities of the Queenstown Violin Summer School.

The internationally renowned Summer School brings 25 brilliant young violinists to Queenstown to study with outstanding national and international artist/teachers.

The Festival features performances by guest ensembles/artists including NZTrioDimitri Atanassov (Bulgaria/NZ), Kevin A. Lefohn (USA/NZ), Vesa-Matti Leppänen (Finland/NZ), Tom McGrath (NZ), Professor Yair Kless (Austria/Israel), Kirsten Simpson (NZ), Sarah Watkins (NZ) and winner of the 2005 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, virtuoso Feng Ning (China/Germany).

Young Virtuosi

NZTrio
Saturday 16 January, 8.00pm St Peter’s Anglican Church, 2 Church St. This internationally renowned chamber ensemble is known for their interpretations of both traditional and contemporary classical music, from violinist Justine Cormack, cellist Ashley Brown and pianist Sarah Watkins.

Exclusive Screening of “4”
Sunday 17 January, 8.00pm Skyline, Wakatipu Room. Australian Filmmaker Tim Slade’s award-winning movie has been made especially available to the Festival. Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons and four outstanding violinists are the threads used to explore how nature shapes who we are. Filmed in Australia, USA, Japan and Finland. Enjoy this special evening from the top of the mountain with a complimentary gondola ride.

International Festival Concert
Monday 18 January, 8.00pm St Peter’s Anglican Church. A recital presented by the internationally renowned teachers of this year’s Queenstown Violin Summer School, including winner of the 2005 Michael Hill International Violin Competition, virtuoso Feng Ning.

“Shakespeare on Location”

Shakespeare’s loveliest scenes staged outdoors. Take a guided tour around the Queenstown Gardens and watch local actors bring the Bard’s finest works to life. Bring a cushion or come prepared to stand. Some walking required.

Tours leave from the main gates of the Queenstown Gardens (Park Street Entrance) every hour on the hour between the following times:

Triathlon New Zealand Contact Tri Series

Multiple sprint triathlons racing on an exciting street circuit through Wanaka’s CBD. Entries are open to everyone, for the beginners the Contact 3:9:3; for the more experienced triathlete the sprint distance. Cheer on the athletes from the side line and watch the fast paced action.
